Runners and Dog Lovers, now's the time to mark
May 13 on your calendar for the day MRE celebrates spring as only we can by running and then going to the dogs... all for charity, of course.
The Bridge Run -- Our Extreme Sports Event
|
At the crack of noon, the boom of a cannon from the Annapolis Yacht Club will announce that the race is on! People and their dogs and baby strollers will run, jog, walk, or even skip across the Spa Creek Bridge, some trying to beat the record of around 32-34 seconds to the Eastport end of the bridge.
It will be a very physically taxing event, we know, so we'll have a water stop mid-span, and in case you aren't sure of the route, we'll give you a map too.
The $20 entry fee gets you a limited edition t-shirt as a premium, a race number and aforementioned map, and a goodie bag full of all sorts of items, thanks to local merchants. The t-shirts are generously donated by our friends at the Boatyard Bar & Grill.
The pace car is a secret at this point, but this year we'll also have the "pace pipers" in the form of the Chesapeake Caledonian Pipes and Drums!
| Registration for both events begins at 10:30 a.m. at Eastport Elementary School. |
The awards ceremony will follow immediately at Eastport Elementary School, and then attention turns to all things canine.
Dog Day Afternoon
We celebrate our retrievers, our labs, our newffies, our yorkies, our mutts in a family event full of canine fun for all.
The $15 entry fee gets you a doggie bandana and a bag full of doggie treats, toys and other items. There will be very nice prizes awarded for:
- best dancing dog
- best singing dog
- best costume
- best dog-owner lookalike
The SPCA's mobile pet adoption van will be on-hand as will Aussie Pet Mobile groomers, a number of professional working dogs and new this year, the World Famous Pet Psychiatrist, Dr. Sigmund Rabid. ![]()
| Proceeds from both events benefit the SPCA of Anne Arundel County and Eastport Elementary School's Reading is Fundamental Program. Last year we raised $3000 for these great programs! |
